On 1 July 2016 the new laws under the Tackling Alcohol-fuelled Violence Legislation Amendment Act 2016 commenced. This resulted in a number of changes for licensed venues across Queensland.
While an adjustment period is expected for patrons, venues should have implemented these changes which include reducing alcohol service hours and banning the service and supply of rapid intoxication drinks after midnight.
Venues are able to continue trading after the service of alcohol has ceased.
One of the most effective ways for venues to communicate these changes is through their existing communications with patrons and in-venue signage.
There is a range of signage available for you to download and display at your venue. You can locate the artwork under 'lockout' and 'refusal of service' in compliance for licensed venues on the Queensland Business and Industry Portal.
By now, venues who trade past midnight in safe night precincts should have received drink coasters that provide a relevant and timely reminder to your patrons.
The 1 July changes pave the path for further changes set to occur early in 2017.
