State Wise Requirements for RSA Course

Which RSA Course Should I Do

Welcome back to our channel, where we keep you updated with all the latest information in Australia. Today, we will be discussing the different rules to apply for RSA in various states of Australia.

As you all know, RSA stands for Responsible Service of Alcohol. Anyone who serves or supplies alcohol in Australia needs to have an RSA certificate. It is mandatory to ensure that the service is provided responsibly and with the customers’ safety in mind.

However, the rules to obtain an RSA certificate vary from state to state. Let’s take a closer look at them.”

Firstly, let’s consider New South Wales (NSW).

An employee in the liquor industry must hold a valid NSW RSA competency card or interim certificate. The course can be done online or in person. Upon completion, you will receive a NSW RSA Interim certificate, valid for 90 days. In these 90 days, you must apply for your Competency Card, which is valid for five years.

Check our Step-by-step Guide to getting an RSA competency card in NSW.

Next, let’s move on to Queensland (QLD)

In QLD, you must also complete an RSA course, either online or in person. You can apply for your RSA course online with a Registered Training Organisation like Galaxy Training Australia. With GTA, you can download the nationally recognised Statement of Attainment instantly after completing the course. The RSA certificate doesn’t expire in QLD.

It is important to note that if you work in a place that sells or supplies alcohol after midnight, you will need a ‘Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Late Night Permit’. (not sure need to confirm)

Moving south, let’s talk about Victoria (VIC).

In VIC, the RSA certificate is also mandatory, and you must complete it within one month of starting work in a licensed venue. You can complete the course online or offline. After obtaining a nationally accredited RSA qualification from a recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO) like GTA, you can enrol in VCGLR’s FREE online RSA bridging course to gain recognition in Victoria. By completing the course, you will receive a Victorian RSA certificate, allowing you to work in licensed establishments within Victoria. The RSA certificate in VIC is valid for three years.

Moving west, we come to Western Australia (WA).

In WA, you must also complete an RSA course to work legally. You can apply for your RSA course online with a Registered Training Organisation like Galaxy Training Australia and download your certificate. There is no expiry date for the RSA certificate in WA.

Lastly, let’s talk about South Australia (SA), Tasmania (TAS), South Australia (SA), Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Northern Territory (NT)

You must complete the course from a registered training organisation in these states. If you complete the course from GTA, you will get a nationally recognised statement of attainment. Below are some rules to consider:

The RSA Statement of Attainment does not expire for TAS, QLD, WA, and SA. For the ACT, it expires in 3 years. For NT, it needs to be renewed every three years.

The Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate is mandatory for anyone who serves or supplies alcohol in Australia. It is important to note that the rules to obtain this certificate vary from state to state. So, make sure you check your state’s specific requirements to ensure that you are serving and supplying alcohol responsibly.

That’s all for today. Thanks for joining us, and we’ll see you in our next video.
