Step-by-step Guide to Getting an RSA competency card in NSW

Step 1: Complete an approved RSA course from RTO
To obtain an RSA competency card, you must complete an approved Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course from a registered training organisation like GTA. This will equip you with the necessary understanding and skills to serve alcohol responsibly. You can complete this course either online or in person. With Galaxy Training Australia, the online RSA NSW course will cost you $139 (incl. $97 Competency Card Fee).
Step 2: Apply for a Competency Card
Once you have completed your NSW RSA course, you will be issued an interim certificate within one business day. With GTA, you will receive a Statement of Attainment instantly after completing the course. The interim certificate is valid for 90 days, and you can start working instantly.
Take your interim certificate and 100 points of ID check to an NSW Service Centre. You will need original identity documents for verification. After the identity check, have your photo taken and submit your application.
Step 3: Receive a Photo Competency Card
After submitting your application, your competency card will be sent to you by mail within four weeks. Please note that it is essential for you to personally submit your application as it cannot be done by someone else on your behalf. The card is valid for five years and must be renewed afterwards.
Step 4: Digital Competency Card (optional)
You can also set up a digital version of your licence at ServiceNSW. After your card arrives, download the optional digital competency card on the MyServiceNSW app.
